The short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most beautiful treks to the wonder of the world.  This trail runs through cloud forests, full of orchids, butterflies, and incredible views of the Urubamba river valley. It is surrounded by impressive sacred mountains considered by the Incas. It also connects to the last section of the classic Inca trail, in the Wiñayhuayna sector, which is considered by many travelers the most beautiful place of the entire Inca trail, and in the afternoon you reach the door of the sun from where you can see the magnificent Citadel of Machu Picchu.

Day 1

CUSCO - OLLANTYATAMBO - KM 104- WIÑAYHUAYNA-SUN GATE-AGUAS CALIENTES

We left at 4.00 am from Cusco by bus to Ollantaytambo train station.The  train departs  from Ollantaytambo  at 6.40 am, following the Sacred Valley and the Vilcanota River ariving after 1 hour to KM 104 to begin our Inca Trail. It will begin with a short walk to the archaeological site of Chachabamba (2270 meters).

We continue our hike with beautiful views of the Urubamba River. We can observe different species of orchids. After 2 hours, we will see the site Wiñayhuayna Ruins (2,650 meters), this fabulous archeological site  is perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley of Urubamba and dominated by a broad set of terraces. The ruins on the way are amazing, we continue our journey and reach the Sun Gate at 3:00 pm. Where we have the first  view of Machu Picchu, enjoying a fantastic sunset . Then we descend to the archaeological site of Machu Picchu (2400 meters), which only pass this day. After to have some selfis, we  will continue to the village of Aguas Calientes, by Bus where we will stay in the Hotel Machupicchu Lodging.

TOUR IN MACHU PICCHU - RETURN TO CUSCO

We left our hotel at 5: 00 am after breakfast and, we will take the bus to Machu Picchu the journey takes  (30 min), you will enjoy an unforgettable view with the sun rising on the site. Then we will do the check in of our tickets and passport. We will have 2 hours tour guiding in Machu Picchu, our guide explains what life was like in the citadel, cults and ceremonies that the Incas in many temples and shrines on the site conducted. After 2 hours guided tour you can enjoy the magic of Machu Picchu at your own pace. If you have a reservation for any Mountain, you  can climb  up.In the afternoon, you will return to Aguas Calientes,  then you have to take the train usually at 14.30 pm, that goes until Ollantaytambo. After 1 hour 20 minutes  you will  get the train station in ollantaytambo, there waits your transfer with your names  to take the Bus  to Cusco, arriving to the small plaza of San Francisco at 6.45 pm.

  • Where is the pick up for the short inca trail hike?

The pick up from your hotel will be at 4:00 am, please provide clear contact information of your place of residence at check-in at the Cusco office.

  • Where to pay the remaining amount of the Short Inca Trail?

We assume most people try to get to Cusco 2-3 days before the trek to give enough time for acclimatization. Once you have settled in and rested you should come to the Cusco office to see and confirm the information we have pertinent to your short inca trail tour, personal needs and sign the conditions (even if you have already paid in full.) There are occasions in Local festivities or discomfort may require last minute changes to departure times or some additional information and that is why we have a brief briefing  before your trip.

  • Where can I store my luggage while I’m on the Short Inca Trail?

For the short inca trail  you just have to take with you the things you really want / need and leave the rest of your things in your hotel in Cusco.  Eco Path Trek offers free luggage storage for all our guests. If you have luggage, you should leave it at the office the day before, and after your tour you can pick it up.

  • What should I pack for the Short Inca Trail?

The most important things, for a day of trekking like:

Yes, so you can buy: for example, a bottle of water / drinks, hot springs in Aguas Calientes , souvenirs, snacks in Machu Picchu, etc. Bring at least 400 soles as emergency money.

  • How many people will be in my group on the short inca trail?

We require a minimum of 2 people for our tour, dates indicated in the availability of the web, are open groups in which you are invited to join. We can have up to 8 hikers with a guide and a 9 -16 hikers sheet we have 2 licensed trekking guides on the short inca trail. During the low season groups are more likely to be small and during peak season groups will probably be large. The Ministry of Culture has a rule in place made limited the amount of passengers by 2 guides for 16 people.

DURING THE TREK ON THE SHORT INCA TRAIL.

  • I am not very experienced hiker in? What if I can not keep up? How difficult is the Short Inca Trail?

Most people have that concern, but they do not care. Only in extremely rare circumstances does a passenger need to return before. Just remember what made you are able to go at a speed made it comfortable for you. Take your time, your own pace, and enjoy. The Short Inca Trail is considered a moderate hike. It is not a technical hike but there are plenty of Inca steps, up and down, and altitude can affect some individuals by value. It is recommended to use a trekking poles and have them in the early evening before the trek.

  • Are trekking poles really necessary on the short inca trail ?

For the short inca trail  we recommend the use of trekking poles, especially for those passengers with known problems of the knee. There are several times during the short inca trail hike  the need for its use, whether ascending a mountain or walking through immense sets of ladder of the short inca trail. It will help you with your balance and reduce the impact on your knees. Park rangers only allow trekking poles with rubber tips, because if it is metal it damages the road. You can purchase rubber tips for metal tips from any local store in Cusco.

  • Is altitude sickness common? And how high is the Short  Inca Trail?

It is impossible to predict that they will be affected by altitude. Its ability to adapt to high altitude is deterministic undermined by its genetic makeup and has little to do with fitness or health. Most people will have no problem as long as they take the time to acclimate properly.

  • Can ECO PATH TREK meet my dietary needs? What kind of food will there be?

Not to worry, ECO PATH TREK is able to accommodate many types of dietary needs on request at the time of booking. If you are a vegetarian, or can not eat gluten or have allergies to certain foods, it will not be a problem for us.

  • I’m going to have to carry the water on the short inca trail?

Yes you must carry your own water, be it in a canteen or a bag to carry water. Since  2018, the entry of plastic bottles to the Inca Trail networks and the Machu Picchu Sanctuary is no longer allowed. So we beg you to take that detail into account. On the other hand you must be wondering how much water you should carry, the answer is, that you will evaluate it according to your need to want to drink, on the short Inca trail you usually have the first two hours a very hot temperature so Surely you should drink more than a liter of water, and to continue the journey you must have another equal volume of water. We do not recommend the idea of carrying water tablets for you to take from the streams and can purify, since many of them are not suitable for human consumption.

  • Are there any bathrooms along the way?

Along the short inca  trail there are 3 places with toilet facilities. First at the hiking start, then after 3 hours, and in Machu Picchu. Please bring a roll of toilet paper. As for another type of trash going, please take your own trash to each camp. Do not leave a trace or throw away the trash.

  • Is there a possibility to cancel my hike of short inca trail?

There isn’t a chance of  cancellation the short inca trail. Even in extreme climatic conditions or even in case of a strike there will be no cancellation. The Ministry of Culture or ECO PATH TREK can not change the date of a walk if there is a general strike. We will make every effort to ensure that you get to the beginning of the short inca trail to start the walk by the date of the permit, on some dates if there is a strike will be communicated by the mail, where you will be informed the time and date of departure, Sometimes you must go a day earlier to prevent the road from being blocked. In the event that a passenger decides to cancel the trip for any reason, he will lose his trip; You would only have the option of going to Machu Picchu, on your own and do not lose your return train ticket, entrance to machu picchu.

  • Is the short  Inca trail good during the rainy season? It is safe?

  • What kind of weather can I expect on the Short Inca Trail? The temperatures?

During the “rainy season” (Dec 1 – May 1), you could have some rain at any time, but you can not expect it to rain every day. Often in December and January you may only get some continuous light rains or you could be fine and then a splendid afternoon, but in reality you could have days of good weather. At the same station, therefore, it will be noticeably hotter at night. The times of the day will get up to about 25 C° degrees Celsius. On the other hand, during the “dry season” (June – Dec) the days seem surprisingly like spring, with a bright and sunny sky, but it will be much colder at night. During the day you can expect it to be somewhere in the range of 20 C° to 30 C° degrees Celsius and at night it will be 10 C°to 8 C° degrees Celsius. It is always better to dress in layers at any time of the year, really. As you walk, change the poles, since if you walk with the garment wet, it is dangerous since it could catch a flu.

  • How many hikers are there per group?

We work with a group size of 2 to 8 people, for which it is assigned: 01 guide. If the group is 8 or  more, you will have two guides

  • What is the standard procedure when it comes to tips?

The tips for the trekking staff mentioned above are not included in the price of the trek. Gratuities are optional but not mandatory. Tips for the guide: The guide will accompany the group along the tour including Machupicchu. We recommend you tip the guide after the tour in Machu Picchu, a reasonable amount is 80 usd.

  • Will I be able to witness the sunrise at Machu Picchu?

This depends on the station that is going to visit the citadel, for example in the rainy season it is almost impossible to appreciate a sunrise, since machu picchu always dawns cloudy. In the dry season, if there is the opportunity to see an impressive sunrise in Machu Picchu.

  • Will I be able to climb the Huayna Picchu?

If you are interested in the mountain Huayna Picchu in your visit to Machu Picchu, it is mandatory to have a special permit which is reserved, at least 6 months in advance of your visit to Peru. This income has an additional cost of $ 80 usd.

  • How long am I able to stay at Machu Picchu? How I will I get down to Aguas Calientes?

The visits to Machu Picchu have been divided into two schedules, the first is (6:00 am to 8:00 am), those ticket has a one-time validity, with a duration of only two hours with the guide, then you can stay a prudent time until the midday. This system has been implemented for reasons of care and protection of the world wonder. To came back to aguas calientes town you can do by walk wich is 45 minutes or by the local buses.

  • What time will I be back in Cusco?

You generally arrive back to Cusco at 18:45 pm. The final place will be your hotel adress in Cusco.

  • A.- For the students of the school: With the passport or national ID – original ones, from 8 to 17 years old
  • B.- For the students of the University:With the original student ID gives from the university in PVC material and it must have the follow requirements:

  • expiration date valid only for one year, it year must coincide with the year that student visit Machu Picchu, the discount until 25 years old.

 

  • Is it possible to change the dates after the initial reservation?

You can only make the change of dates, if we have not yet bought the permits for the Inca trail, but if everything is already organized it is very unlikely to change the date of travel, otherwise you may lose your reservation.

  • What if I do not have my passport at this time?

The Ministry of Culture requires a valid passport issued, the best case is to organize your new passport in advance if you did is the case. There is the possibility, due to the limits of the spaces on the requested date of reservation with your old passport number, and change it when you have the new passport. So we recommend bringing both documents.

  • Can I pay for the full tour in advance?

Generally, we only charge the deposit of your Inca Trail to confirm your reservation. This deposit and full details on the booking form are used as a guarantee for income and other excursions. The balance is payable upon arrival in Cusco in cash. If you choose to pay by credit card you need to pay 10% commission. The prices of the tours are cash payment.

We are Inka Trail Trek  a branch of Eco Path Trek   and we look forward to the opportunity to act as your booking agent for your travel needs. These terms and conditions (the “Agreement”) describe what you are legally entitled to expect from us when you purchase travel related services through us in Cusco, in addition to your obligations as a customer. The terms “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Inka Trail Trek. The term “you” refers to the customer visiting our website, booking a reservation through us or otherwise using our services

These booking conditions only apply to the trip arrangements which you book with us in Peru and which we agree to make, provide or perform (as applicable) as part of our contract with you. All references in these booking conditions to “trip”, “booking”, “contract” or “arrangements” mean such trip arrangements unless otherwise stated. References to “departure” mean the start date of these arrangements.

  1. Our Agreement With You
  • Products and Suppliers

We sell a variety of travel related products from different suppliers and service providers (“Suppliers”). Each Supplier has its own terms and condition that are applicable to your particular arrangements in addition to our general terms and conditions, and you should make sure you understand them. Certain software and content found on our website are owned or licensed by us or our Suppliers, your use of which may be subject to further conditions.

 Inka Trail Trek is acting as intermediary or a “Booking Agent” for products and services that are not directly supplied by us (e.g., ground transportation, hotel accommodations, meals, tours, etc.). We are not a co-vendor of such products and services. You will be entering into a separate contract with such Suppliers in connection with such products and services.

  • Deposits and Payment

Any deposits from you are non-refundable. Payment of a deposit enables us to hold a reservation for you but does not guarantee the price. The price can only be guaranteed once we receive full payment and other travel documents have been issued, subject to any terms and conditions of the Supplier. We will advise you of the date that full payment is required. Upon your provision of your payment information, you are authorizing us to make the payment arrangements with the corresponding Suppliers.

To make a booking please follow the procedure shown on our website or ask to our chat online. The relevant application form needs to be completed by each person travelling.The completed booking form must then be sent to us together with the payments referred.

Where we have already confirmed the availability of your chosen arrangements and you book within any applicable time limit for doing so, your booking will be treated as firm and a contract between us will come into existence as soon as we receive your completed application form and your deposit. We will then send you a receipt for all payments made and our invoice. Where we have not confirmed availability, your booking will be treated as firm and a contract between us will come into existence when we despatch our invoice to you. Where you book through our website without prior confirmation of availability, any electronic acknowledgement of your booking is not a confirmation of it. Please check your invoice carefully as soon as you receive it. Contact us immediately if any information which appears on the invoice or any other document appears to be incorrect or incomplete.

  • The price quoted for any trip covers the cost of the planning, the organisation and carrying out of the trip, including group equipment, supplies, accommodation, administration and staff, except for the following, for which the you must be responsible: vaccination fees, travel insurance, cost of travel to and from the start / return point of your trip including your international flights, cost of passport and visas, personal equipment and personal expenses while on the trip and any other expenses specifically excluded on the trip description and/or invoice.

We reserve the right to make changes to and correct errors in quoted prices at any time before your trip is confirmed. We will advise you of any error of which we are aware and of the then applicable price at the time of booking.

  • Cancellations and Changes

Your contract with us may allow them to cancel or amend bookings. If we are your Booking Agent, we will ensure that you are promptly notified of any significant changes once we become aware of such change if there is time before your departure, but we accept no liability for any changes or costs incurred that may result. Subject to the Supplier’s terms and conditions, you will then have the choice of accepting the change of arrangements, accepting an offer of alternative travel arrangements if one is made available by the Supplier, or canceling your booked arrangements and receiving any applicable refunds. We do not guaranty that any refunds will apply.

  1. Your Agreement With Us
  • Your Acceptance of these Terms and Conditions

By booking your arrangement with us or using our website, you are agreeing to be bound by the terms of this Agreement, including Parts 1-3 of this Agreement and any additional terms and conditions of any Supplier that are applicable to your booking, travel arrangements or use of any website content. You agree on behalf of yourself and those you represent to comply with all such terms and conditions, including the payment of all amounts when due. You agree that any violation of any such terms and conditions may result in (a) the cancellation of your reservation or purchase, (b) your forfeiture of any monies paid for your reservation or purchase, (c) you being denied access to the applicable travel related product or service, and (d) our right to debit your account for any costs we incur as a result of such violation.

You represent and warrant that (a) you are of sufficient age to use our services and website and can create binding legal obligations in connection with your use, (b) you are legally authorized to act on behalf of those you represent and accept these terms and conditions on their behalf, and (c) the information supplied by you or members of your group is true and correct. You are responsible for informing such other persons of all terms and conditions applicable to their travel arrangements. You understand that you are financially responsible for any use of our services or website by you and those using your name or account.

  • If You Change Your Booking

Where a change requested by you to your travel arrangements is permitted and possible, our standard service fees will apply in addition to any additional Supplier charges. Please contact your original booking agent to enquire about changes, for details of how to request changes. Please note that all reservation changes are subject to availability and the terms and conditions of the product purchased.

  • If You Cancel Your Booking

Cancellation of bookings must be notified to us by letter or email by the party leader as soon as possible. Your notice of cancellation will only be effective when it is received in writing by us.

In addition to the cancellation terms and conditions of our Supplier(s), our standard fees will apply as may be outlined on your receipt or booking confirmation. We need to receive from you your original voucher before any applicable refund can be considered. If you decide to cancel arrangements before the balance due date, any deposits paid are non-refundable.

If the reason for your cancellation is covered under the terms of your travel insurance policy, you may be able to reclaim your cancellation charges through your insurer.

  • If You Have a Complaint

If you have a problem during your holiday, please inform the relevant Supplier (e.g. your hotel) immediately. Should they be unable to resolve the matter, please immediately contact us, either through the office where you made your arrangements, or through www.incatrailexpedition.com. If you fail to timely contact us, we will not be permitted the opportunity to investigate your complaint and attempt to rectify any error while you are away, and this may affect your rights under this Agreement.

  • Travel Documents and Destinations

It is your responsibility to ensure that all of the details on your travel documents are correct and to bring to our attention any errors or discrepancies immediately. Your travel documents are valuable and should be safeguarded as if they were cash. It is not always possible to replace travel documents in the case of loss, theft, damage, etc.

Prior to booking international travel, we recommend that you review any Government’s prohibitions, warnings and advisories applicable to your destinations. By offering travel to any particular destination, we do not represent that travel in such destination is safe or without risk.

  • Passport, Visa and Immigration Requirements

It is your responsibility to fullfil the passport, visa and other immigration requirements applicable to your itinerary. You should confirm these with the relevant embassies and/or consulates. We do not accept any responsibility in the case of you being unable to travel due to not complying with any such requirements.

You are also required to carry a valid International Student I.D, if you are traveling on a special student/youth/ ticket. It is your responsibility to verify this with our travel experts who is assisting you.

  • Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a vital part of your arrangements. We strongly recommend that you have taken out adequate insurance for the duration of your journey. It is essential that you have adequate and appropriate cover for your trip including any adventurous activities such as trekking at altitude. Note that the majority of our trips do not require the use of climbing ropes and are all supervised. It is important to have adequate insurance which will cover cancellation costs from the date of booking as well as medical expenses (including evacuation and repatriation). If you travel against the advice, the validity of your insurance policy may be affected. Please read your policy details carefully and take them with you on your trip. It is your responsibility to ensure that the insurance cover you purchase is suitable and adequate for your particular needs.

  • Health: Except as disclosed in your medical questionnaire, you are taken to confirm at the time of booking that you are in good health, physically capable of undertaking all aspects of the trip, and unaware of any reason why you may be unsuited to taking part or may be likely to suffer illness or injury during the trip, taking into account its challenges and purposes. If you are unable to give for this confirmation for any reason or have any medical condition or disability which may affect your trip, you must contact us before you submit your application form so that we can assist you in considering the suitability of the trip for you.

If any information given in the application form or medical questionnaire is shown to be materially incorrect or incomplete, we reserve the right to cancel your booking or terminate your participation in the trip, depending on when we become aware of the true position. In this situation, cancellation charges will apply and we will not be responsible for any costs or expenses incurred as a result.

  • Special requests: Please advise us of any special requests prior to making your booking. Where possible, we will endeavour to meet or arrange for our suppliers to meet any such request. Confirmation that a special request has been noted or passed on to the supplier or the inclusion of the special request on your invoice or any other documentation is not confirmation that the request will be met. Unless and until specifically confirmed, all special requests are subject to availability. For your own protection, you should obtain confirmation in writing that a special request will be complied (where it is possible to give this) where it is important to you.
  • Travel Advice and Vaccinations

Vaccinations may be required for some or all of the places you are intending to visit. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have arranged all necessary vaccinations for your itinerary.

  • Privacy Policy

You consent to our processing and sharing of personal information about you and other members of your party that you have provided to us in accordance with the terms of and for the purposes set forth in our privacy policy. You represent that you have read and agree to the terms of our privacy policy, which can be found at our website

  • Our Liability to you

We promise to make sure that the trip arrangements we have agreed to make, perform or provide as applicable as part of our contract with you are made, performed or provided with reasonable skill and care.

Please note, it is your responsibility to show that reasonable skill and care has not been used if you wish to make a claim against us. In addition, we will only be responsible for what our employees, agents and suppliers do or do not do if they were at the time acting within the course of their employment (for employees) or carrying out work we had asked them to do (for agents and suppliers).

We will not be responsible for any injury, illness, death, loss (including loss of possessions and loss of enjoyment), damage, expense, cost or other sum or claim of any description whatsoever which results from any of the following:

Your act(s) and/or omission(s); or

The act(s) and/or omission(s) of a third party not connected with the provision of your trip and which were unforeseeable or unavoidable; or’force majeure’.

We cannot accept responsibility for any services which do not form part of our contract. This includes, for example, any additional services which any supplier (including any of the regional Adventure Alternative companies) agrees to provide or arrange for you where we have not agreed to provide or arrange these services as part of our contract.
